How to make Locked Layers to be accessed for copy but not be modified in Illustrator?

Hi, I want the layers to be locked like it shoud be read-only such that the items of the layer can be accessed for copy and not be modified.

Is there a way to do it programatically or thru any settings ?

Turning on that option may be helpful in some cases, Dior.

But I'm not sure if kiruthika bala was really looking for that kind of solution.

Hi Kiruthika,

As mentioned above, it is not possible as of now, however, sounds like a good feature request. I would request if you can take a moment and share this on our UserVoice page: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/

This is the best way of communicating with the Engineering and Product Management teams regarding issues and suggestions so they can be implemented in future releases.

Regards,

Srishti

I'm afraid this is not possible.

Are you supplying someone with an AI file? For what purpose?

There is no way to do that in an AI file. There are ways of locking various things in a PDF, but they aren't watertight and are easily circumvented.
