Question

How to make this forum better?

Hi friends

I have the ability to create an announcement inside this forum. So I'm thinking about this possibility. I'm following this forum for about a time just to be sure it's free of spammers (and also for learning each time more about scripts and participating when having time).

I'd like your opinion....

What do you think about creating an announcement called "Read it before posting your questions here". The body of the announcement should tell the users links from where are the manuals of Illustrator Scripting and the JavaScripts Tools Guide. This could help people find useful informations of Illustrator scripting and know more about it. Do you think it would be useful?

Also, do you think some times...is there some users who ask questions, but, at true their objectives is to make the specialists here to create an entire code for them?? ...like..."Hey, I want to create a snow ball in Illustrator. How could I do via script?"

If you perceive there are such users, do you think would be good to include in the announcement a paragraph to warn about this?? So, this would alert this forum is a place essentially for "help"?

Can you share your inputs about this subject, on how I could create a good announcement to help new users to use it better?

Thank you very much

Best Regards

Gustavo.

Hi Gustavo, that's nice of you, thanks for trying to improve the forum. It'd be helpful to have some kind of basic instructions, the question is, would new users easily "see" it and actually read it?

as for some users soliciting free work, I don't think an announcement would stop them, some people are just like that, they try to take advantage of the generosity of others and many times they get lucky.

I suspect low probability, at least based upon what I have encountered across many various forum sites concerning "read first" sticky announcements. Sadly human nature seems to have failed in this regard online. Does this forum even offer the ability to pin a post at the top of the question stack so it always appears there and also be somehow distinguished, via background color, etc? Given that most users fail to find the search button the odds are stacked against us it would appear.

Hi friends

Thank you very much.

Yes, I agree...most users wont open the announcement to read. I'll try to discover if this forum allows posting useful links in a highlighted area, so it's better.

Just to try to work with announcements, I've just made a first announcement. Look at the top of the discussion's list page.

What do you think? Do you think I should take off any information? Or add anything else? Did you find it useful?

Please note: my intention is not to dictate rulers for this forum. It's far from my intention. What I'm looking is for making an area or post where new users can find links for scripting documentation and also warn some users this is a place for help and sharing information, not a place where people develop script for free.

Ideas?

Gustavo.
