How to minus from with a group of objects

I made a logo for a client and then he wanted it distressed looking, so I threw this vector over it, thinking I could just minus front but I can't. See the pictures. One is the finished logo with the top "distressed layer" in white, other is all highlighted so you can see that the white is still there, just blended into the background. Obviously, I just want the distressed image on the black. I tried to isolate just the blackframe and the distressed image but even that wont minus front.

Please help!

Casey,

Whichever structure you have, you can select the white top vector parts and Group them if not already, or turn them into a Compound Path if not already, then select the black artwork as well, then Make (Opacity) Mask with Clip unticked and Invert Mask ticked.

If you turn the top vector artwork black, you can leave Invert Mask unticked.

Opacity Masks are all about appearance and therefore very forgiving.

Rereading, I noticed that it is for a logo, and I believe it is worth solving the riddle of its failing to work with minus front.

If the black artwork is raster artwork, it will fail,

Can you show a screenhot with the black artwork selected and also showing it in the expanded Layer in the Layers panel?
