How to open a Photoshop selection in Illustrator

Not sure if i should post this here or in the Photoshop community, but:

I would like to save a selection with, say the marquee tool or magic wand (NOT with paths, it is much simpler to use the magic wand), that I make from a file in Photoshop then open the selection shape in Illustrator.

Is there a away to do that in Illustrator CS6/Photoshop CS5?

What do you intend to do with this 8bit-1 Channel-image?

As @Ton Frederiks indicated you could copy it (from QuickMaskMode (Q) or saved as a Channel or a Layer Mask) but I suspect saving a new image and placing that in Illustrator might be more useful.

Edit: I might have misunderstood, I thought you meant the Selection itself; if you meant you want to place a clipped image I would recommend applying the Selection as a Layer Mask, saving as a psd and placing that in Illustrator.

Did you try Copy - Paste?
