How-To Recover Illustrator documents from TMP files

Hi everyone..

Mi Illustrator 2022 suddenly closed and I've lost an important document with a detailed hand made drawing I've done.

Without realizing I skipped the "Open unsaved files" window that appears when you re open the program.

So now, I got a lot of temporary files on the default folder but I cannot open any of them.

As I suppose because of the file date, I selected the first one on the folder and renamed it adding .AI at the end. Windows now changed the file type and shows the AI file icon but illustrator wont open it.

I'm getting a message saying the file is an unknow file format and cannot be opened.

I got a 300ppp image exported before closing on PNG format, that would be my Plan B but of course I want to take back my original file with the vectorial illustrations.

Would someone guide me on how to open those files? Opening them on Acrobad didn't work either. Thanks in advance

@Jeremas_Sueldo9799 by any chance does your computer such as a Mac OS, Time Machine is turned on? So that maybe, you can go back in time to retrieve those files? It's been awhile for me in using Time Machine, but, I think an external HD may need to be used to restore those files. https://support.apple.com/en-us/104984

Sorry, no idea if a PC has this. I would assume so as I am guessing if Apple has it, a PC should have this too!

I would not put too much hope into recovering them, but maybe @Anshul_Saini can help?

Hello @Jeremas_Sueldo9799,

Sorry to hear about your experience.

Would you mind sharing a public link to the file(s) after uploading to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc. so we can check it on our end. Although we cannot guarantee a successful recovery, we will try our best to do so.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav
