How to set default artboard size when opening up PDF other files?

We receive random PDF, JPG, and PNG from clients, but when we open them in Illustrator, the artboard size is small, around 5"x5" usually (for me at least). I want the artboards to always open as 24"x48" since that's the size we typically need. Is there a way to save that as a default?

You can set that up as a Document profile. Then don't open the Pixel images, but place them in a file based on that profile.

 

As for the PDF: it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you get.
