How to swirl text in 3d

Hi guys
I like to swirl a text in 3D so as I do it with shapes.
Do you have a good idea? In the end, it should look a little like this shape, but instead of the green rectangle, it should be a word...

a real 3D application such as Blender should be able to do it. 

 

In Illustrator this would be quite a bit of work to get that result. using envelopes and whatnot.
