how to turn off ligature?

why the "fi" buttom is grey out here? i want the "i" could be seprated from "f",  please help. (the font here is Roboto"

and the ligature feature is annoying , is there anyway i can set it in my illustrator preference that to turn off ligature completely for any future docments? thank you.
