As I (mis)understand it, you just wish to divide existing artwork into pages for print on your own printer.

If that is the case, you can use multiple Artboards, one for each part of the artwork (and forget about grids).

Presuming you printer has non printing areas at the edges, the Artboards need to be overlapping by a certain amount horizontally and a certain amount vertically which can be different, so that the edges of the printable parts of adjacent Artboards are flush (coincide).

In other words an overlap equalling twice the width of the non printable in each direction.

With this, you can print all the artboard, and then cut some of the edges so you can recreate the artwork in its entirety without gaps and with every second non printing area left beneath the cut edges of adjacent pages so you can glue them all together.
