How would you recreate this awesome graphic/pattern in adobe illustrator?

I think it was manually drawn. The design is probably from the 70ies, early 80ies.

You can set up some guides. And if you do, you will notice the slight imprecision. And when you have done that, cut the shapes and piece the thing together.

I’d create paths on the left end and right end of the pattern and use the blend tool to create the in-between steps.

The blend effect applied between two paths delivered a somewhat close result. In order to duplicate that pattern accurately the paths would have to be hand-drawn and edited.

Object > Envelope distort > Make with mesh

then move, rotate, free transform, anchor points by making a selection with the white arrow
