Hyperlink is going to wrong URL when exported as a PDF

I'm adding this hyperlink to an object using the attributes panel:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/39%C2%B009'25.3%22N+84%C2%B024'16.9%22W/@39.1554966,-84.4155797,14.54z/data=!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d39.1570278!4d-84.4046944?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDcwNi4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

But, when I export as a PDF, the clickable object goes to this URL:

https://www.google.com/maps/search/39.440534,+-84.327643?entry=tts&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDYwOC4wIPu8ASoASAFQAw%3D%3D&skid=c79482a6-194b-4ec8-9815-bebb1db7418c

I've linked to the second URL in the past, but never in this document. I have no idea how it even got into the AI file. This is happening on Chrome & Edge, which are the two main browsers I use. I also have to fix this within illustrator (not using Acrobat), because I'm working with a large number of documents and need to streamline.

Couldn't find anything about this online... This is such a weird issue, I don't even know where to begin on how to fix it. Can anyone help? Thanks all.

Let's try?

Alexandre,

I found the right answer. This qualifies as user error more than bug, but I'll still post the answer here just in case someone else made the same mistake.

There was a drop shadow object beneath the hyperlinked object. This drop shadow object somehow got a link attached to it. It was in the very bottom of a different layer & the image mapping was turned off, so I didn't pay any attention to it at first. One way or another, that link was taking priority over the intended hyperlink.

Thanks for your help!

Hello, i did a test and all is working on my side. Maybe on your side the link is too large.
I made a bitly link to shorten. Can you test if it's working or maybe in a new doc ?
The bitly link : https://bit.ly/44IOW0I

Let us know if it's working.

Alexandre,

Thanks for your response. I tried using Tiny URL and it didn't fix anything. However, when I created the same object in a new document, the link worked. So at least that means it's something to do with my illustrator file. Just not sure what.

Let me check if i can find a solution. In case is it possible to share the file or not?
Can redo the hyperlink setting from zero? That mean erase the hyperlinks settings and remake a fresh new one.

Hello @adam_5473,

Thanks for reaching out. It seems this might be happening due to the URL being encoded. Could you try copying the URL for your pin using the option for share from Google Maps and then using it to check if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Anubhav,

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately this didn't seem to change anything... Not sure if this will be relevant, but I'm on Windows 11 Pro 24H2, and I'm using version 29.1 of Illustrator.

What's weird is it's only happening with some of the linked objects in my document. The others are working fine.
