I CAN NOT check the boxes for "GPU performance" and "animated zoom" within the "preferences" tab

Hi community,

I'm a newbie on adobe illustrator. I have installed the adobe illustrator, however, during the installation process, I came across a pop up window for GPU installation. Unfortunately, I haven't installed GPU at the time. At the current moment, when I go to the "preferences" tab and to the "performance" tab, I can not check the boxes for "GPU performance" and "animated zoom". 

Can you please guide me on how to counter this as I need to check the boxes to pursue my work?
