I can see changes in the layers tabs but it is not showing on my screen.

I am new to illustrator and this question is not a youtube one. I am attemtping to color an image in illustrator. I am trying to turn the stroke to a fill. When I click the icon nothing happens on my screen, same when i try to change the line thickness. I can see the changes in the layers tab but not on the image that I am working on. Im attaching a screenshot to better help show my issue.
