Question

I can't add glyphs

I just downloaded the newest version of adobe creative cloud. I'm new to all this as I'm a student, and I can't seem to insert glyphs at all, both in illustrator and indesign. I've tried using type tool. I've tried triple/quadruple/etc clicking with mixed results-sometimes randomly it will work once in a blue moon, but mostly not. I've even reinstalled my creative cloud, to no avail. Any ideas?

Which version and system is it? Please give us version numbers.

Exactly what are you doing? Double clicking in the Glyphs panel?

Which font? Emoji fonts can be very tricky.

this is the 2022 version. Id 17.4 Illustrator 26.5.  I open a text box, click type>glyphs and double click on the glyph I want. It takes me clicking for a solid minute before a glyph shows up. It's not emojis-I tried with a bunch of different ones in various types (garamond, noto sans batak, noto sans banam etc). Ornaments, mostly. Are those tricky as well?

The way it should work:

With an active text insertion point (blinking cursor)*, double-click the desired glyph in the Glyphs panel to insert that glyph at the inserion point. If it does not work that way for you, there may be another application interfering or a preferences reset may help.

*In InDesign, use the Type tool to drag out a text frame, or click in an existing text frame to set an insertion point. In Illustrator, use the Type tool to drag out an Area Type frame, or, click in an existing Area Type text frame, or, click anywhere on the artboard (Point Type) to set an insertion point.
