I can't change the colour of brushes from the brush library

When I change the stroke colour from black to any other colour, the brushestrokes just become a slightly paler grey. In the brush settings, the colorization is set to Tint. I can create colour shapes in my workspace, so the workspace isn't set to greyscale or anything like that. I've tried several different brushes from the Artistic brush library and all of them have the same issue. I'm all out of ideas about what else I can try to make it work, as everything I've read online suggests it should be working already!

I encountered the same issue last week.  Under colorization selection method There is a key color selection :color dropper icon and grey.  Make sure color dropper icon is selected then click ok.  I found out that if I created and saved  brush with colorization method tint choice but not select the color drop icon.  Then when I use the brush no matter I have already chosen the tint and color dropper icon, the brush color will stick to grey.  I am using ai 2018 version.

Easiest would be if you could upload your AI file to Dropbox or the like so that we could take a look at it.

looks like if you have at least 2 different brushes applied to the same object and some kind of Recolor. In addition to Ton's question, would you please show the Layer panel with the current layer expanded?

There's nothing to expand that I can see. It's just a path:

Or is there a way that this can be expanded further?

The selection does not match the brush as I have it in Illustrator and as shown in the Art Brush options window.

Can you check the Appearance panel?

It doesn't seem to be possible to colour that Conte Crayon Photoshop effect.
