Question

I can't open AI and PSD files that were copied to an external drive

I copied a large folder of Adobe (Illustrator and PSD) files from my iMac to an external drive.

Now these files will not open and i get the following errors:

Illustrator: The file"xxxxxx.ai" is in an unknown format and cannot be opened.

Photoshop: Could not open “xxxxxx.psd” because it is not a valid Photoshop document.

Some files that were copied at the same time open OK.

Does anyone know how I can get these files to open?

Thanks

Can you try and first copy them back to your harddisk and then open them?

And also: please do a check on that drive. If it's Mac OS you can use the Disk Utility for that.

Thanks for your advice, I tried copying the files back to the HD and this did not work, and Disk First Aid faild to scan the drive.

If you can manage to copy anything at all to your harddisk and then upload it to Dropbox or the like, you could have the Illustrator team to try and rescue something. There is not a lot of hope, but they can try and maybe have additional advice @Anshul_Saini  could you perhaps help?
