Question

I can't save each layer as a separate file.

When I go to save the file, in the dialog box where this is an option, it's grayed out. Is there a way to trouble shoot the file to fix the issue? The only option I have to to recreate all the layers in another file to use this dialoge. I did receive this file from someone else, so I wasn't it's original creator.

Hello @Erin J.26032156,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind sharing some screenshots of the layers panel and the export window, as suggested by Ton, and if Illustrator also behaves this way with other files so that we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Have a look at this thread where they discuss a script to export each layer as a separate file: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/export-each-layer-as-a-separate-file-but-without-hidden-layers/m-p/13401108

Can you please show your dialogue box?

I see an option to save artboards as separate files, where do you see this layers as separate files option? (there may be scripts to do that)
