Question

I cannot move objects in Illustrator for Ipad, what’s the problem?

Ipad Ios is 26.6.2. I drew a circle, but cannot move it using either selection tool. I am also trying to draw concentric circles, but option drag is also not working. The layers are expanded and not locked.

    Hi,

If the layers aren't locked, you should be able to select and move a circle using the Selection tool.

Could you try a few things to narrow down what's happening?

    1. Create a new document and draw a circle with a solid fill.

    2. Choose the Selection tool (the black arrow), tap the circle to select it, then try dragging it to another position. Does the selection bounding box appear?

    3. Try moving it with both your finger and Apple Pencil, if you have one.

    4. Check the circular Touch Shortcut control on the canvas. If it's locked into a modifier mode, double-tap it to unlock it and try again.

For creating concentric circles, you can select the original circle, duplicate it using the contextual actions, and then resize the copy from its centre. Illustrator on the iPad also supports touch modifiers for duplicating objects and scaling from the centre.

If you're using Option-drag, are you using an external keyboard with a mouse or trackpad? That shortcut is supported on the iPad, but the touch-only workflow is different.

    A couple of questions:

    • Can you select the circle but not move it, or does it fail to select altogether?

    • Does this happen in every document, including a completely new one?

    • Which version of Illustrator for iPad are you running, and which iPad model are you using?

If it's happening even with a simple filled circle in a new document, I'd be inclined to suspect an application or input issue rather than anything wrong with the artwork.

Let us know what happens with those tests.
