It will let me open the older file. However, if I try to save it in either Illustrator or photoshop it says I don't have permission. so I went to the filed and unlocked the file ... and then try and reopen it again... but stil the same result ... it will not allow me to save the file. It is an origionally an .ai file and I am trying to open it in photoshop and save that file as a .jpeg or .png. Than you . -Richie-

What are the write permissions you have in that directory? If you can open, you can save - when you have write permission. Save as ... and a different name and may be a different location will solve the problem.

What happens if you do a Save As in an different folder (or on the desktop)?

Or when you copy the contents and paste it in a new file.

If you can open the file in AI, then you can save ( or Export) the raster file from there. No need to use Photosho.
