I need help outputting my image at a certain size and at 300dpi

Question

This may be an obvious one, but I am trying to output an image at 300dpi but keep it a certain size.

Right now my artboard is set up as: 8.5in x 11in
Resolution is: 300DPI
Mode is: RGB

When I output it now, at the 300dpi, the size of the PNG is huge. ( 2676 px × 3288px ) But I need it at the 8.5x11 size. I know I am probably missing something obvious, but if you can help me that'd be great!

The desired output is
8.5in x 11in
Resolution is 300DPI

Is your document/artboard size currently 8.5 x 11?

What settings are you using when exporting to PNG?

Did you check "Use Artboards" in the first window? Are you saving with transparency or a white background?

2676 x 3288px is 8.92" x 10.96" so the dimensions are a little off.

This leads me to believe that is the size of your artwork overall, not the artboard size.

Illustrator does not have a resolution because vectors are resolution independend.

When you create an Illustrator file, the resolution refers to the resolution at which the pixel effect (like blurs and dropshadows) have to be calulated.

If you xport an Illustrator file, the default is 72 ppi. If you increase the resolution during export (like 300 ppi) Illustrator will generate more pixels to keep the size at tha increased resolution.
