I need help with this. The first screenshot is the effect (white star shape, not the "Melissa" text) I'm trying to get. The second screenshot is what I came up with. Does anyone know how I can get the star like in the first photo? I traced the star and feathered it but I don't like my result. Thanks in advance.

Glad you could solve it!

Feathering will only apply a soft-edged mask on the object. The object itself will not be blurred while Gaussian blur will actually blur the object.
