I have been trying for nearly three hours just trying to get the pen tool to disconnect. The form I have made is not closed so I can't get the line to end. I have watched all the tutorials but they always close the drawing. It cannot be closed. What can I do?
It sounds like you have the Rubber Band feature enabled for your pen tool. It makes it difficult to stop drawing with the pen tool. To disable this feature go to the Selection & Anchor Display section of your Illustrator preferences and uncheck "Enable Rubber Band for: Pen Tool". See screen shot:
