This has become annoying to me. I saved a file and my laptop had to shut down (i had to auto shut down because it froze). Then when i start it back up adobe illustrator shows nothing and my file is not in my documents or anywhere to be found. Then i just decided to redraw the drawing i was doing, and then once again my laptop shuts down. This time i was absolutely sure i saved the file right before i was going to add more details to it later, and the same thing happens again, my file was not saved!

    Hi Michael,

In addition to the suggestion made above, why don't you try to create as sample file and save it on the desktop, close Illustrator, relaunch and check.

    Where do you save?

    Which version, which system?

    Is a printer connected?

Are all fonts checked and OK?

    Did it ever work?

I save all my adobe files in documents, i use adobe illustrator CS6, using a macbook pro mid 2012 with OS X (Version 10.9.5). I have no printer connected, and my fonts have always been the same.

No, i still can't find the file.

Please connect a printer. Illustrator needs one even when you're not printing.

Also: check your fonts. They are not "always the same", they can go corrupt. Illustrator will be the first application to notice.
