I want preview 'Display performance' settings in .Ai

Is there a way to use low res image placements in Ai.?

I don't want to generate separate low res files and i don't want to start using EPS files again, (which used to give me the results i want)

Ideally i would like there to be similar settings as we have in inDesign to just turn off/down the image quality to speed things along.

I guess maybe just need a new mac, but when you have 20 or 30 images placed in a doc that are each a good few hundred MB its not as speedy as it could be.

alternatively if there is a plug-in or some setting i can use that retains the full file name AFTER i have rasterised an embedded image then that would be a good work around for my needs, as often ill place a bunch of images and then rasterise them at the size I'm using them and replace with full res later - but retaining the file name would help me locate them more easily.

thanks

    Hi there,

Please check out below-mentioned thread for Image downsampling and reducing the size of images:

Reducing the size of embedded images in your illustrator document | Scientific Illustrator, Department of Geology

    Adobe PDF options | Illustrator

    Hope it helps!

This is in no way the correct answer to the problem mentioned. Thanks for trying but this is a big work around to a problem that illustrator already solves by saving as a pdf. I was asking for preview quality settings same as those available in Indesign.

Sorry 'nut but I don't have the answer either; just a question.

Why not just use InDesign instead? (My asking doesn't imply you can't have a perfectly valid reason.)

I imagine I may be a bit of a purist, but when devising workflow for a given job, one of my rules is: Layout with Placed raster image(s) =  never Illustrator.
