I want to make compound paths where I change one element and make new ones with just one thing changing.

I have a compound path that includes a solid box with type which is converted to outlines. I have a bunch of these to make where the type changes-only what it says, not size.  Each time I release the compound path, put the new copy in place and try to remake the compound path and it doesn't work in that it doesn't cut out the letters on top of the box. Sometimes, It'll work if I redraw the box. Is there a setting or something to clear any formatting of the box element so that each time I do this it works without having to redraw everything. Note that redrawing doesn't always work either.

Thanks!

What you could do is not use a compound path at all, but a compound shape instead.

Then text can stay live and editable.

Monika,

Thank you for your advice and the video link. That worked for what I needed it to. So much easier and I'm so grateful. I am used to the old way and wasn't aware of these options. :-)
