I want to re-edit an SVG file in Illustrator after exporting it.

However, when I save the file as SVG using "Save As," the options "Convert fonts to outlines" and "Preserve Illustrator editing capabilities" no longer work. These features used to work before. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator multiple times, and I've also deleted the preferences, but the issue persists.

What should I do?

Re-editing an exported SVG in Illustrator is not a good idea.

The option "Preserve Illustrator editing capabilities" will embed an Illustrator file (with all the live elements, effects etc) into the SVG code. Which bloats the file size (something you want to avoid on the web). But what also happens: when you open the SVG in another application, the embedded SVG will be ignored and of course third party applications also cannot save live things, so it will be gone after saving the file.

Hi @kp_fjmt,

Thank you for sharing the details about the SVG issue. I completely understand how frustrating it can be when the Convert Fonts to Outlines and Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities options don't work as expected. To help us investigate this with the team, could you please share a short screen recording showing the exact steps you take to reproduce the issue? I did try following the steps on the UserVoice thread: Defect with SVG option "Character: Convert to Outline" – Adobe Illustrator, but I want to make sure I'm following the exact steps you use.

Looking forward to your update.

Best,
Abhishek
