Illustator open PDF file issue

The PDF file was made by Illustrator CS3 version, now I want to modify it with CS4 or CS6, the textbox will convert to single line text.

Please help to advise how to solve this problem, thank you.

    It sounds like the PDF was not created with "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities".

    As a workaround you can select all the text.

    Either copy it or cut it.

    Then select the Type tool and drag a rectangular area with the Type tool that is large enough to contain your text. (You can resize it later if you need to).

    Release the mouse. You should have a blinking text insertion point in the upper left corner of the text area.

    Paste the text into the area.

    It should now be one unit.

    I'd suggest giving it a quick proofread to make sure.
