Illustrator 2018 Crashes when working with envelope warp

Scenario: Every time I try to edit the content or release an envelope warp ILL 2018 crashes. I own an older version (Ill 5.1) which does these functions without any problems on he exact same graphics. What is wrong here? Can I change settings somewhere that I have missed. I have a deadline and I really need this function to work. I started my files in Ill 2018 and my old version does not import the files properly. I do not have time to redo all my files. HELP!

Try resetting your preferences. If you kept your old preferences when you updated to CC 2018 then that could be the source of your problems. See CC 2018 Illustrator—Don't Import previous settings and preferences .

Thanks that was the problem. No more crashes ... I owe you a drink. Let me know if you come to San Diego ...

By default Macintoshes hide the user Library folder which houses the preferences folder to get to it:

With Illustrator closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe Illustrator <Version #> Settings” (earlier versions of Illustrator might just say “Adobe Illustrator”) and “com.adobe.Illustrator.plist”.

See screen shot for even more clarity:
