Illustrator 2020 kept crashing when connected to network

I was having an issue where creating or opening a document would cause  Illustrator 2020 (and also the 2019 version) to become unresponsive and crash. Attempting to save an open document would cause the same issue. I have tried all recommended solutions as provided on this forum but to no avail. Finally, I remembered a similar issue I had when using ArcGIS (with a borrowed uni licence). ArcGIS would crash a few seconds after the splash screen showed up, turning off the wifi on my device fixed the issue.

This leads me to thinking that somewhere in file management, illustrator is trying to communicate via my network, encounters a problem, and crashes. I hope this helps anyone who's having this issue too. Maybe something to look into, Adobe?

Hi Duco,

Nice job troubleshooting that. Though we have very limited support for Network related issues, we understand that it's definitely not normal to work without a network connection. I would request if you can check a few things and share your observations with us:

Your network does things that Illustrator cannot know:

Apart from that: Illustrator looks for a printer when opening or saving files. No printer might lead to a crash.

In the current version there is a yet experimental feature that tries to address network issues. You can try if that is what gives you the issues: Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard.
