Question

Illustrator 2022 updated, and now I can only see a white boundless artboard - I can't seen anything

Illustrator was updated sometime overnight and today, I went to open an Illustrator file, that worked yesterday - and all I see now is a white screen.

Not sure what's going on, so I rebooted, checked for any additional updates, and created a new Illustrator file, and I can still only see a white screen.

I've tried all the Screen Modes, still a white art, no artwork.
The artwork is visible in the Layers panel, but no artwork actually shows up on within an work art to be edited.

Anyone else, have this problem? Where you able to solve it? What did you do?

As of 2/15/2022, I still haven't found a solution, after trying the recommended 'fixes'. I've uninstalled the Illustrator and reinstalled an earlier version.

Hi @tinnah301097@aaronroth@autodefrost1,

I am really sorry to hear about your experiences. I would request you all to please share a few details like:

  • The exact version of macOS & Illustrator
  • Does this happen while working on an old document or all?
  • When did this start happening?
  • Are there any recent changes made to your system (AntiVirus, any new app installed, OS update, or web extensions)?
  • Are you using any plugins or extensions? If yes, please disable or uninstall them and let us know how it goes.

Also, please try running the app in Safe Mode and share your observation with us.

We are here to help. We just need more information.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Has there been any resolution to this? I am using AI 2021 with no issues, as I had to reinstall it becasue the AI 2022 will not run properly and I have tried turning off the GPU Zoom and other items listed above.  This is so frustrating and hard to explain to get some leve of understanding.  Thanks for your efforts to resolve this!

I know I'm still not able to get it work, even after working with an Adobe "expert" for over an hour. I'm still just using AI 2021 on my Mac.

Hi All,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. In addition to @Ton Frederiks & @marliton suggestion, I would request you to try the following steps and let me know how it goes:

  • Does turning off "Animated Zoom," "GPU Performance," & "Real-Time Drawing and Editing" from Illustrator Preferences > Performance > uncheck Animated Zoom, GPU Performance & Real-Time Drawing and Editing helps to resolve the issue?
  •  Close all Adobe applications and go to the following locations:
    ~/Library/Caches
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
    ~/Library/Preferences
Rename Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 24 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old, com.adobe.illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 24 Settings.old
  • Rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from the following location:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • If that doesn't help, rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from the following locations:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • If that doesn't help either, uninstall the whole Creative Cloud & its applications using the CC Cleaner tool and delete all the Adobe files from searching in Mac.
  • Restart the Mac and reinstall apps from the Creative Cloud Desktop app. I hope it helps!

I'll be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

I've had the same issues as previous posters and even going through this list the problem persists.

I'm having the same issue here. I'm glad a found someone who experiences the same and hope to find a solution. I was ot quite sure how to describe the issue, but it's simply when I try to edit something on an artboard, everythig turns white, which makes it impossible to work. It does not matter if I create a new document or if I'm working on an existing.

I updated to Monterey last Friday to the latest version (12.0.1) and Illustrator to version 2022. Since then I'm having issues with Adobe. Beside the white artboard in Illustrator, I was unable to save files (Save Dialog did ot come up in any applicatio. So I was not able to save or export files).

I had several chats over hours with Adobe support and Apple support, which feels like running in cricles because everyones excuse is that it might be an issue of the other. I tried to roll back to a previous version of MacOS but that did not help. Adobe has complety reinstalled and cleaned Creative Cloud with all settings apps several times with no success. They suggested to work on a previous version of Illustrator (25.4.1) and don't use the latest version so at least the Save Dialog works.

I tried everything I can think of (using just one screen, PRAM reset, selecting main screen, uninstall & fresh install of ACC, deleting all plugins), but the issue with the white artboard won't resolve.

Still White.
Also tried zooming out, no change.
Also tried resetting the View> WorkSpace (all options), still white.

I'm probably just going to uninstall and reinstall an older version - fingers crossed it works.

You could first check if you have the latest version (26,0,1) or try to reset preferences:
