Question

Illustrator 2022 won't load on mac os 13.3.1

Spent several hours and calls to Adobe yesterday trying to load Illustrator 2022 to my new iMac running 13.3.1. I want to be able to use my Adobe Font Library so need an older version of Illustrator. At 81% loaded the process stops and I get the following message:

We are unable to move the file. Please rename the file, then try again. (Error 146)

Thoughts on how to load the older version or other options for making the Adobe Font Library continue to work.

You should be able to install the 2023 version 27.0 which still has the support for PostScript Type 1 fonts.

In the Creative Cloud app select Apps > All Apps > Illustrator > click the 3 dots …  next to the Open button >  click Other Versions and select 27.0

Hi @RonClary,

Thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you're encountering some difficulties installing Illustrator 2022 on your new iMac. To address this issue, I recommend following these steps:

  1. Completely uninstall Adobe Creative Cloud using the CC Cleaner tool and all Adobe applications from your iMac.
  2. After uninstalling, ensure that all files and folders related to Adobe are deleted from the following locations:
    • (Clear user library) Shift + CMD+ G [Go to Folder]~/Library
       - Delete folder: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe & any com.adobe files in the Application Support folder
       - Delete folder: ~/Library/Caches/Adobe & any com.adobe.plist files in the Caches folder
      - Delete folder: ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe & any com.adobe.plist files in the Preferences folder
    • (Clear system library) Shift + CMD+ G [Go to Folder] /Library
       - Delete folder: /Library/Application Support/Adobe & any com.adobe files in the Application Support folder
       - Delete folder: /Library/Caches/Adobe & any com.adobe.plist files in the Caches folder
       - Delete folder: /Library/Preferences/Adobe & any com.adobe.plist files in the Preferences folder
    • Clear any Adobe related folder or shortcut from the Applications folder
  3. Once everything related to Adobe is removed, restart your iMac.
  4. After restarting, run the Illustrator 2022 installer again and follow the on-screen instructions to install Illustrator 2022.
  5. During the installation process, make sure to select the appropriate installation location and follow any prompts.

If you continue to encounter the "Error 146" message, please let me know, and we can explore further troubleshooting steps.

Best regards,
