What's the deal with Adobe Illustrator 2025? It doesn't autosave before crashing? I lost a ton of work - can anyone recommend a solution?

The solution is:

saving your files. If you want something reliable, do it yourself.

If a crash happens while Illustrator is saving, then there is nothing to recover.

What you want to do:

Save early

Save often and regularly

Save different versions, because saving often will not help when you lose your only file in a crash while saving.

Save on different harddrives, because harddrives can go south as well.

Turn on Time Machine if on a Mac

Get something similar if on Windows.

And when you have all that, then the Recovery function can be the icing on the cake.

Hello @DennyKurien,

Would you mind providing some details about the circumstances under which these files were saved or edited and the location of the files where they were stored?

Also, kindly share a link to the AID files from the recovery folder (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/recover-files-after-crash.html) after uploading to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc. so we can check it on our end. Although we cannot guarantee a successful recovery, we will try our best to do so.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I have been working on a file that has regularly crashed, every single time the message saying 'Save will continue in background' pops up.
This has happened at least 15 times today!!!!
Why does Adobe make its apps WORSE with every update?

I assume this feature is supposed to help save my work, but it does the complete opposite!!!! It crashes the app and forces me to lose all the work since my last manual save.

FIX IT!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!

I have been testing this more, and it actually happens a lot when I am manually saving the file as well. So... autosave does not work, and the app crashes when I try to manually save as well (probably 3 times out of 5 during manual saves, it crashes and loses my work)!

We update the apps because we live in hope that Adobe will fix some of the many bugs that have been around for ages, but all you do is break even more of the core functionality!
