Illustrator 2026 & 2025 crash on New Document / menu open – CharParaStyles.aip null pointer (Windows 11)

Hi all,

Illustrator crashes every time I create a new document or open any menu. The New Document dialog appears, but the app crashes as soon as I click Create. Photoshop and InDesign work fine on the same machine and account.

[System]
- Windows 11 Home (Korean OS), build 26200
- Intel Core Ultra 5 125H, 16 GB RAM
- Intel Arc Graphics, driver 32.0.101.8991
- Education (school) license

[Affected versions]
- Illustrator 2026 (30.8.2)
- Illustrator 2025 (29.8.11)
Both crash in exactly the same way.

[Crash report – identical in 3 reports]
- EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005)
- Top frame: dvaui.dll – UI_Node::UI_SetEnabled
- Called from CharParaStyles.aip
- During OS_AppBase::UpdateMenuRefEnablement
- RCX/RDX = 0, so it looks like the Character/Paragraph Styles panel node is null when menu enablement is updated.

[What I already tried – none helped]
- Reset preferences (via Adobe diagnostics)
- Deleted font caches (AdobeFnt_PseudoFonts.lst, TypeSupport folder)
- Renamed UXP folders
- Clean reinstall, installed 29.8.11 LTS, reinstalled in Korean
- New local Windows administrator account (same crash)
- Adobe Fonts: no active fonts
- Windows "Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8" is off
- Disabled GPU-related suspects; crash stack contains no GPU driver modules
- Removed third-party security software
- Moving CharParaStyles.aip out of Plug-ins makes Illustrator fail at launch

Since the crash also happens in a fresh Windows account signed in with the same Adobe (education) account, I wonder if an organization policy (e.g., Creative Cloud Libraries disabled) could prevent the styles panel from initializing.

Has anyone seen this, or is there a known workaround? I can share the full crash report if needed.

Thanks.

    Try resetting your Illustrator preferences. This will restore the program to its defaults and should clear up any program corruption that could be causing your problem.

    To reset preferences in Windows:

    You can try the quick way of resetting on a PC which is to hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching Illustrator and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset. There have been some recent reports that the window asking if you want to reset is not popping up but that the prefs are being reset anyway. If this works great but if it doesn’t you may have to manually delete them.

    To do so:

    The preference files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator [version number]\ Settings\<Language>. Make sure that Illustrator is closed when you do this. When you relaunch the program it will create  new preference files and the program will be at its default settings.

    The advantage of manually deleting preference files is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.
