Question

Illustrator 2026 (v30.7) pdfs save with missing text when layers are turned on. Works fine from earlier versions.

Illustrator 2026 (v30.7) pdfs save with missing text when layers are turned on. Works fine from earlier versions. It’s bizarre. Im also regualrly finding that the colour of certain blocks of text changes on my pdf, then when i reopen my illustrator file, the text now looks the wrong colour and is set to an unknown colour (shows grey with a question mark). I then have to re-set all the colours and check the whole file with a fine-toothed comb.

Im using a MacBook Pro 2023 with Sequoia 15.7.7 BTW

@GaryC1982 you mentioned Illustrator 2026 (v30.7), what platform, MAC or PC?

When I look at the images, my first impression is black being overprinted. Go to Window - Attributes - If it’s set to overprint, uncheck it.

Ok, so I’ve over 20 years of experience and I can tell you that it's not that. If black was being overprinted, you would still see it anyway.

… But it is happening across several different projects with different setups, so its not just one file thats the issu

@GaryC1982 sounds like a bug. I wonder if you could roll back to previous version to avoid ‘jumping through hoops’ to solve the issues or not. I use ‘Export as a PDF’ to avoid most of those issues that you spoke off

Well Im sure its a bug, but I thought the reason for highlighting it here is so they can investigate and fix the bugs in the next release, so we don’t have to find work-arounds. Sometimes 2025 has similar issues. I could try export as which might help with the pdfs, but i imagine that wont solve the colour issues on reopening the ai files.
