Illustrator 25.2 Mac Sluggish/Crashing

On my otherwise stable MacBook Pro Illustrator has become very sluggish. I'm working with relativey basic files (simple technical illustrations) that I've been using for quite a while. The files are local, not in the cloud or on a network. All of a sudden every simple operation (drag an object, nudge with the keyboard, select a different tool) results in the dreaded beach ball for several seconds. Today AI locked my machine up solid, requiring a hard reboot. That has never happened until now.

I realize I'm probably leaving out some info that may be handy, but it really is a simple issue. My workflow is shot now, I'm way less productive now. I intend to do more research on my own but wondered if anyone else had similar issues with the latest update.

Thanks in advance.

Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. I estimate that I'm losing 2 hours a day to spinning beach balls and sluggish performance. I've tried every tip mentioned here and elsewhere. Now it's hitting me in the wallet, I wish there was an alternative other than Corel. I may take a look at Affinity. This is really a shame, come on Adobe!
