Question

Illustrator 25.3 and AIRobin, using too much memory on macOS Big Sur

I've updated Illustrator to 25.3 lately. When opening Illustrator, the program and AIRobin take up 23GB of memory (according to Activity Monitor). With no files opened. I have never had this before. I'm running on my Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2015 with MacOS BigSur. I tried everything: I ran the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, removed my preferences and unchecked Save in Background. But unfortunately nothing works.

Has anyone else had this issue or does anyone know what might work to decrease the high memory usage?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind sharing some more information like:

  • Exact macOS version, e.g. 11.4 (Big Sur), 10.15 (Catalina), and 10.14 (Mojave).
  • When did this start happening?
  • Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.

All this information will help us understand the issue better and work accordingly. Moreover, in the meantime, you may try running Illustrator in safe mode and by creating a new user account. I hope this helps.

We are looking forward to your response.

Hi, thank you so much for responding.

Here's the information you need:

  • Exact macOS version: 11.3.1 Big Sur
  • The high memory usage started occuring after updating Illustrator to version 25.3 and updating my Macbook from Catalina to Big Sur.
  • I don't have any recent changes or installed extensions to my system.

I will try to run Illustrator in safe mode and create a new user account on my macbook.

Thanks again.

Thanks for replying. In addition to the suggestions given earlier,  I'd recommend you to update your Illustrator to v25.3.1, released earlier this week. Let us know how it goes. Thanks!
