Question

Illustrator 27.2 freezes before printing

I am outputting to an Epson 3880 using Windows 11 and have 64Gb of RAM. Up until a few days ago I had never experienced a problem printing. I can now produce (usually) one print. When trying to output a second print the dialogue proceeds as normal, the preparation progress bar completes but when the printing progress bar appears Illustrator freezes before the bar even beginning to populate. The only way to output a second print is to close Illustrator with the Task Manager and relaunch. I have changed nothing on the system.

Thoughts appreciated...

Hello @Hoppity,

Sorry to hear about the printing issues. I hope the suggestions shared by Monika helped resolve the problem. If not, kindly try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-a-local-user-or-administrator-account-in-windows-20de74e0-ac7f-3502-a866-32915af2a34d),  removing and reinstalling your printer drivers (https://epson.com/Support/Printers/Professional-Imaging-Printers/Epson-Stylus-Pro-Series/Epson-Stylus-Pro-3880/s/SPT_CA61201-VM), and sharing your observations.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav

There also haven't been any (silent) updates to Windows or the printer driver?

And I suppose the content of your files also hasn't changed? Different kinds of work, different fonts? Larger files?

Does this happen to files you could print without issues before?

It could have happened that Illustrator's preferences just got corrupted. Resetting them will erase all your settings, so you might want to close Illustrator and rename the preferences folder. This can be undone in case it doesn't solve the problem.
