Illustrator 27.9 and Sonoma 14: When I save an .ai fil as a PDF, PD no longer appears on my desktop.

Very odd. My Mac updated to Sonoma 14 (automatically, I disabled that feature!) and I can no longer save my .ai files as pdfs so they appear on my desktop.

What happened?

Desperate for help, I'm 76 and not a geek anymore as far as understanding OS things.

Thanks to anyone who can guide me!

Steve

Hello Anshul:

Thank you so much for reaching out to me.

I WAS helped by an Adobe tech several days ago and he suggested that I update AI which I did…..and he made one minor change in the Finder (which I did not understand) which together fixed the issue!!!! I just tested again and I can save out my AI files to desktop as pdfs and they immediately appear!

Great service by you and the other tech, wish I could recall his name…….

Thank you again for checking on me.

Stay well and safe!

We are having the same issue, some users are still on Ventura and some updated to Sonoma.  They all have the latest AI but this issue seems to be growing at an alarming rate.

We save pdfs for sending vendors or our large format proofing systems and can no longer save the files.

I did notice that when a user tries to save a pdf, the process "fileproviderd" occupies most of the data writing for about 30 seconds even though the output is only a 200K file.  Trying to connect the dots.

Hi @Rob5D85,

I'm sorry to hear that you and your team are facing issues with saving PDF files in Adobe Illustrator. To better assist you, could you provide some additional information?

  • Error Messages: Are there any specific error messages or warnings that users encounter when trying to save PDFs?If yes, please share the screenshot.

  • File Location: Could you clarify where users are attempting to save these PDF files? Are there any network drives/ server or cloud storage involved or locally on HDD/ SSD?

These details will help in diagnosing the issue and providing you with a more targeted solution.

Best,

Anshul Saini

Hi @toysbyus,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're facing with saving .ai files as PDFs in Sonoma 14. Let's try to get this resolved.

First, I'd recommend updating your Adobe Illustrator to the latest version, which is currently 28.0.

If updating Illustrator doesn't solve the problem, it might be helpful if you could share the specific .ai file you're having trouble with and also provide the settings you use when exporting it as a PDF. With this information, we can better understand the issue and provide more tailored assistance.

Don't worry, we're here to guide you, and you don't need to be a tech expert. Your cooperation in sharing these details will assist us in helping you more effectively.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

You will probably need to downgrade the operating system.
