Illustrator 28.6 crashes when clicking arrow buttons to change values (M1 Macbook Air)

Almost everytime I change the size of text, spacing of characters, or stroke or other values using the arrows keys it will cause a hard crash to Illustrator, bring up a pinwheel and won't resolve it – resulting in lost data if I hadn't saved recently.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator, and updated my M1 Macbook Air to the latest version to no avail.

Some of the arrow keys in question:

It's difficult to get a read on what triggers it. For instance, I just tried it now and putting the spacing down didn't trigger it, but as soon as I went up it crashed.

Please help!

Hi @richyeah

I'm sorry to hear about the crashing issue. Could you please provide a few more details, such as:

  • Exact version of operating system
  • Did this start happening after a recent update?
  • Are other Adobe apps working fine?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your system, such as updates, app installations, or new plugins?

Your response will help us diagnose the problem more effectively.

Regards,

Srishti

Hi Srishti,

This problem went away for a while, but has now returned. I'm on Version 29.4. Of course I have apps other than Illustrator installed, but I can't think of what would be causing this problem. Other adobe apps are working fine for the most part.
