Illustrator 28.6 makes my work life a nightmare

The latest update has added very close to twice as much time to work tasks because now the application sits in a spinning beach ball mode for at least 1 - 3 solid minutes each time I try to move to a new open window. This is with files and links that are completely local to my machine. It's made my work life [cursing removed]. Is there a way to downgrade?

Noting for the community that by downgrading to 28.5 has solved this problem.

So, I'm trying the newer update, 28.7.1, and I'm still getting an inexcusable delay when switching between windows. Once again, I'm going to downgrade to the version that works better. These little things add up to a tool that is just not pleasant to use anymore.

Yep, latest version is a veritable nightmare. Using on MacBook Pro, OS 14.1, the workspace always feezes after putting computer to sleep, and settings always go back to default on each startup. VERY tiresome.

Update your Sonoma. It's terribly outdated. Those early Sonoma versions had all kinds of bugs.

For more and more people this gets solved by uninstalling, running the Adobe Cleaner tool and then reinstalling.

That's so much work when downgrading to upgrade got me back into business quickly. Maybe when I don't have a pile of files to advance through production, I can spend the day doing this instead.

Sometimes an installation of an Adobe application, such as Illustrator, can get corrupted. This can be caused by various things, including ongoing updates to the operating system, device drivers and even other applications. Hardware issues or Internet connections issues can contribute to it. Merely uninstalling an application will likely leave behind a lot of "orphaned" files and even folders in all sorts of places. If any of those remaining files are corrupted it's likely a re-install of the application won't fix anything.

It doesn't take much longer to uninstall an application using the CC Cleaner tool. Just for good measure (especially on Windows-based systems) I recommend rebooting the computer after running the cleaner tool and then cleanly re-installing the application after the computer is rebooted.

To install a previous/older version of Illustrator you can do so by opening the Creative Cloud desktop app and going to the Apps panel. Each application tile has a "more actions" three dots icon. If you click on that it will display a fly-out menu. "Other versions" is one of the options on that menu.

BTW, have you tried some of the common trouble shooting steps, such as resetting Illustrator's preferences file?

Hi Bobby.

I hate resetting preferences as I've make a lot of changes there I'd have to make again, but I'm willing to try if you think it would help. Do I trash a preferences folder to do this? Which one should I target? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Adding that the delay occurs when I'm moving from one open window to another rather than when I'm opening a new window.
