Question

Illustrator 29.3, previews missing fonts without installing them on your computer? WHY?

Good intentions but a terrible nisleading option for prepress Quality control.
Please turn this new "feature" off, or give user the option to do so.
Sources of missing fonts are hard enough to track. At least keep it highlighted in pink as in older versions so it has some sort of visual flag. Studio Users are not happy... maybe its a BUG?!
Please fix!

Hi @345580,

I understand how frustrating that must be. Could you please confirm your operating system and if this behavior started right after updating to Illustrator 29.3? Try manually resetting Illustrator preferences and then relaunch the app to check if it helps. You can follow this guide for the steps: Reset preferences in Illustrator.

Also, the latest version available is 29.8.2, please update to this version and test if the issue persists.

Let me know how it goes.

Abhishek

More users experiences this nasty 2025 font preview behaviour.
It only appears in Illustrator2025. We can open the file in 2024 with expected functionality for missing fonts.
If we cut and paste the file from 2025 to a new page or the same one for that matter... it clears the false preview and the missing font now displays pink highlighted and in the text menu rather than blank previously. The font preview can be outlined but not edited. This would open users up to font licensing infractions if not aware the fonts are missing. They preview and print fine. YIKES!

Purging preferences and resaving has no effect.
Maybe Adobe is aware of the problem but I have my doubts? (see attached)
