Illustrator 29.6.1 Crashing Frequently on Windows 11

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing frequent random crashes with Illustrator version 29.6.1 on Windows 11. The app crashes unpredictably — sometimes while saving, sometimes just moving around the interface. There’s no consistent trigger.

Here's what I’ve tried so far:

Rolled back to earlier builds of 29.x — still crashed
Fully uninstalled Creative Cloud and Illustrator (including leftover files in %APPDATA% and %LOCALAPPDATA%)
Disabled GPU Performance and plugins
Crash report shows EXCEPTION_UNKNOWN (0xc0000409) and errors like std::_Xbad_function_call

Specs: Windows 11 Enterprise, Intel Core Ultra 5 135U, Intel(R) Graphics, driver version 32.0.101.6078

However, after rolling back to Illustrator 2024 (v28), everything works fine — no crashes at all.

It seems like a stability issue specific to 29.6.1.

Hi @rita_7874,

Thanks for sharing the detailed information, really helps in narrowing things down. I was able to locate the crash report using your community ID, and I can confirm that a bug has been logged for this behavior.

I'll make sure to keep you posted as soon as we have any updates from the product team.

In the meantime, could you please try launching Illustrator in Windows Safe Mode and check if the issue still persists? Reference: Start your PC in safe mode. This will help us isolate whether the issue is being caused by a background service or driver conflict.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Hi Abhishek,

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to try launching Illustrator in Safe Mode myself, as I’m on a company device and only the IT department has the necessary permissions to perform that kind of system-level change.

If there’s any other troubleshooting I can do without admin rights, I’m happy to try it.

Thanks again
