Illustrator 30.x requests to ask data from other apps but doesn't remember the choice

Dear all,

I have already mentioned this in other posts around but since I managed to get a little deeper I wanted to give this a separate thread.

Every time I launch Illustrator 30.x (that is, ever since v 30 was released), macOS Tahoe shows me the following alert (Illustrator would like to access data from other apps):

If I press “Do now allow” (left button), then the home page of Illustrator is blank and the app will not work properly. No problem, though, I relaunch Illustrator and press “Allow”, thinking this would be it.

In macOS, apps that asks for this specific permission are listed in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation, as shown here:

As you can see, Acrobat got correctly added the first time it asked me to access data while, regardless of how many times I try, Illustrator doesn’t get added. Unfortunately, there is no +/- button to manually add an app to this list.

Even assuming this would be a bug in macOS, it would be for Illustrator to solve this with Apple, since the user cannot do anything but clicking Allow at every launch. Since other apps get regularly recorded in this list, though, I would like to kindly file this as an Illustrator issue, hoping that someone high enough will see this and do possibly do something about it.

Thank you so much for your attention and support.

    Hi @Inélsòre,

Thanks for reaching out and for explaining this so clearly, and I'm sorry you're experiencing this. This prompt is coming from macOS privacy controls rather than Illustrator itself. To help prevent it from appearing repeatedly, please go to System Settings > Privacy and Security > Full Disk Access and make sure Illustrator is enabled there, then relaunch the app and allow the permission again when prompted.

For reference, you can also take a look at these similar discussions where the same behavior was resolved by granting full disk access: https://community.adobe.com/questions-606/cc-library-asks-for-permission-every-time-i-restart-my-mac-580498 and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255856376

Let me know how it goes after trying this, and I'll be happy to check further if needed.

    Dear Abhishek,

thank you for your quick reaction.

The two links you provided bring only to my Adobe account and not to specific posts, or at least that’s what I see.

In any case, I sadly do not feel comfortable with granting full disk access to Illustrator, since it is now an app that makes use of generative AI.

I hope this can be fixed by Adobe (that is, by correctly accepting the “Allow” from the user and adding itself to the list of Automation apps in macOS settings), as this should have nothing to do with Full Disk Access.

    Thanks.

    Hi @Inélsòre,

Thanks for your response, and I completely understand your concern around permissions. I’ve corrected the links in my previous message, so you should be able to access them now.

I also understand your hesitation with granting Full Disk Access. The suggestion was shared because in some cases macOS does not properly persist Automation permissions unless the app has broader access, which can help prevent repeated prompts like the one you’re seeing.

I’m also discussing this further with the product team and will keep you posted as soon as I have an update. In the meantime, sharing a similar community thread reporting the same behavior:
"Adobe Illustrator 2026.app would like to access data from other apps."

Please let me know how it goes on your end after checking the references.

    Abhishek
