Illustrator alignment issue while designing a logo for a website

Question

I’m currently designing a logo for a website in Adobe Illustrator. The logo is made from several simple vector shapes, and I’m trying to keep everything perfectly centered and aligned.

The problem is that when I select the logo elements and use the Align options, some objects don’t appear to align to the visible artwork correctly. The spacing looks slightly different even though the objects are selected together.

I also noticed that the issue becomes more noticeable after grouping some of the shapes and using a clipping mask.

I’ve checked the alignment options and tried aligning the artwork to the artboard, but I’m still getting inconsistent results.

Is there a recommended workflow in Illustrator for keeping multiple vector shapes in a website logo perfectly aligned, especially when some of the artwork is grouped or inside a clipping mask?

I want the final logo to remain fully editable as vector artwork.

Any advice on what I should check would be appreciated.

I found that the problem was related to what Illustrator was using as the alignment reference.

For a logo made from multiple shapes, I first selected all the logo elements and checked the Align panel under Window > Align. I changed Align To to Selection when I wanted the elements aligned relative to each other.

When I needed the complete logo centered on the artboard, I used Align To > Artboard instead.

The clipping mask was also affecting the way the artwork appeared to align, so I checked the clipping group in the Layers panel and adjusted the clipping path before aligning the final logo.

After doing this, the logo elements stayed centered and the spacing looked consistent.

This seems to be a better workflow than trying to manually position each shape.
