Illustrator and InDesign Crash While Working Out of Google Drive

I am an IT staffer at a tech startup. One of our designers is experiencing an issue where his InDesign and Illustrator crash randomly. He works off of a MacBook Pro with Catalina. The crashes only happen when work is done off of the Google Drive desktop client. However, when he switches his saved files out of the Google Drive and onto the desktop, his programs do not crash. Although this work around seems to be working fine, it is inconvenient and hinders work flow. I was hoping someone could inform me on any settings changes/tweaks I need to make in order for Illustrator and InDesign to not crash while saving to google drive.

Nothing to tweak. This is normal behavior for most Adobe apps. They have no provision for extra latency and file integrity checks if writing is delayed in some form and rely solely on standard system API functions for file I/O. The error is trying to use Google Drive directly in the first place.

Illustrator, and presumably InDesign, does not work well with files on servers. To the best of my knowledge, your designer's solution is the solution.
