Illustrator auto selecting points and edges

I swear it didn't use to work like this but when I have snap to grid on and I try to drag to select points and edges, instead my pointer auto selects random stuff and drags it.

How do I turn off this wonderful feature?!

And you are not using a beta version?

WHat kind of pointing device are you using? A mouse or something else?

Could you try adjusting the tolerance for Snap to Point and Snap Guides under Illustrator's preferences to see if they help?
