Illustrator breaking symbols during save process

HELP!

I'm currently working with Illustrator CC 2018, using dynamic symbols, however when I do a "save" or a "save as" illustrator breaks all my symbols into independent lines or vector shapes. I can't figure this out, and there is a large group of us who rely on our dynamic symbols.

Anyone have a solution or know why this is happening?

Cheers

Norrene

Correct answer rcraighead

Are you utilizing any "Dynamic Symbol" features? If not, just convert your symbols to "Static" and it should work.

IMO Dynamic Symbols are not worth the bother and I would much prefer if Adobe would leave "Static Symbols" as the default.

To which version do you save?

We have been saving back to Illustrator CS 5, but noticed that sometimes when we do a save to CC the symbols break, but not as much.

Save As -

Version Illustrator CS5

Options - Create PDF Compatible file checked on

Use Compression check on

Everything else unchecked.

Thank you for your help!

Illustrator CS5 doesn't have dynamic symbols, so of course they get expanded.
