Illustrator causing system to freeze/crash

Running Windows 11, I’ve checked for updates. My computer runs just fine until I open Illustrator which often causes my entire system to just freeze without ever recovering, requiring a hard reboot. 

 

Any input on how to fix this would be appreciated, I can barely run Illustrator.

    Thanks for your response. I did try those suggestions, but it did not help. There is no crash report. The entire system freezes, requiring a hard reboot.
