Illustrator CC 2017 crashing randomly after update

Hi all
Since the recent 2017 (21.0.0, 64bit) update, I have been experiencing random crashes, usually when saving (any file size)

I have also noticed that sometimes when I try to open a file directly (by double clicking it, not file -> open)
The process shows constant varied activity of around 6-8% while "frozen", but it never recovers, I have to end it manually.

I have already reinstalled Illustrator, but the issue remains.

Seems to be a known issue from what I have been reading...

-> Windows 10 64-bit, i7 5820K, 64GB DDR4, Geforce 960 4GB

ETA:
This is also happening on my laptop! (also Windows 10 64 bit)

Restart your computer and run Illustrator by itself, how well does the program run?

Networked printers are fine with Illustrator, but make sure one is selected as this actually does affect the performance and for example generic error codes  when making pdfs can happen when no printer is selected.

Check for anything running in windows 10 you do not recognize and if you can confirm you do not need this uninstall

gear icon >.> system >> apps & features >> sort by install date

If running your web browser decays illustrator performance, remove your cookies.

Where are you saving your files?

Is a printer connected and turned on?

Hi Monika, thanks for your reply.

These are local files, not network

    Printer?!?!
Well not directly connected no, I have 2x network printers one A4 office printer and an A1 plotter.
Both turned off until required (once-twice a week)

    Illustrator doesn't like network printers.

And Illustrator doesn't like when printers are turned off.

You can install and setup a PDF printer.

Illustrator saves printer information into the file and reads this when opening a file.

If the printer can't be found, then Illustrator goes to search it.
