Illustrator CC 2018 22.1 keeps crashing on Mac

Hi,

I upgraded Illustrator to the most recent version a few days ago, and it is now crashing and freezing the entire operating system. As soon as the beachball icon comes up, both illustrator and the system software become locked, and the only way out is to restart my mac (not ideal).

This is happening at least 10-15 times a day, while using illustrator, and is often triggered by opening a file or working on a large file.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Thanks, AG

I found the solution. Go into Preferences, the Performance, and uncheck GPU performance and Animated zoom.

Fixed my issue right away. Hope this helps.

The behavior you're describing is identical here. Crashed 8-10 times yesterday. Have already crashed 5 times today and I don't even use the app for extended periods of time. Otherwise I'm sure I would have noticed this earlier. I love paying $75 a month for these buggy amateur hour software releases.

    WHich hardware? Perhaps a 4K or 5K?

Same here. It's not related to hardware. I can be connected to a display in clamshell mode or just disconnected from my monitor on the laptop and it's the same behavior. Periodically, it freezes... spinning beach ball. Hard crash and sometimes a black screen with the power icon watermark and white text.
